Well, the long awaited day has finally arrived and we are ready to depart Salt Lake City for Santiago, Chile where we will embark on our month long cruise adventure around South America and Antarctica. We should arrive in Chile around 9AM Tuesday morning and then tour the historic city of Santiago prior to checking into our hotel. On Wednesday we will travel to Valparaiso and Vina del Mar, tour both cities, and then check in for boarding our cruise ship, the Holland America Zandaam. This is the beginning of a trip around the southern half of South America, including Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, the Falkland Islands, and Iguazzu Falls, Brazil. Of course, the anticipated highlight is the week that we spend in the Antarctic, seeing incredible wildlife, icebergs, and following the paths of some early explorers to the region such as Drake, Scott, and Shackleton.
We invite you to share our journey with us as we attempt to keep a daily or semi-daily blog of our activities and progress. There will be some areas where we won’t have access to the Internet so you may not receive updates each day. Our time on the internet will be very expensive and limited so we will not be able to read or respond to any e-mails you may send. Enjoy the journey, and Bon Voyage!!!! Tom & Marla
